Pallet calculator/in a box truck

How many pallets fit in a box truck?

A 26 ft box truck takes about 12 standard 48×40 in pallets loaded straight and up to 14 turned. Shorter trucks take fewer: count roughly one row of two pallets for every 4 ft of inside length. Payload is usually the tighter limit, at around 10,000 lb for a 26 ft truck.

With pallets of one size this pattern search gets the floor count right. The EveryLoading optimizer finds the same mixed patterns automatically: 11 EUR pallets in a 20ft container, 25 in a 40ft and 26 industrial pallets in a 13.6 m trailer, and it also handles mixed cargo.

Single layer, from typical inside dimensions. A range means all pallets straight, then the best pattern. The best pattern may leave no play at all, so measure your own vehicle.

  • A tight width

The inside of a box truck is about 96 in wide, and two 48 in pallets need exactly that. There is no play, so one bent wall post or a wide pallet stops the row. Measure first.

  • Payload runs out first

A 26,000 lb box truck weighs about 14,000 to 16,000 lb empty. With 12 pallets of 1,000 lb each you are already at the limit, so work out the weight before you count pallets.

  • Stacking is rarely an option

The inside height is usually about 8 ft, so two pallets of 48 in each just fit, and only if they are light enough.
