Weight, axle loads and centre of gravity

Payload, the axle estimate and the balance of the load.

Video tutorial · 0:24 · the steps are also written out below

Payload

The Weight box in the stats shows the cargo weight against the vehicle's maximum payload. The optimizer never loads past the payload, and dragging an item in that would go over it is refused.

Axle loads (estimate)

The Axle loads box estimates how much cargo weight rests on each support: the kingpin and the trailer axles for a semitrailer, or the front and rear axle for a rigid truck. Values above the limits you set in the Loading space tab are shown as a warning.

Good to know

This is an estimate from the cargo only, using a simple two-support model and the axle positions in the Loading space tab. It doesn't include the weight of the vehicle itself, fuel or the driver. Check real axle loads on a weighbridge when you are close to a limit.

Centre of gravity

The white marker in the 3D view shows the centre of gravity of the load: a ball at its height on a stem down to the floor. It turns red when the load is badly off-centre or too far forward or back, and the stats show a warning with the reason.

To keep the balance within a set distance from the middle, add a Centre of gravity limit under Vehicle details in the Loading space tab. The optimizer then prefers plans within it, and the PDF states whether the plan is within the limit.

Tip

To even out a load, drag heavy items towards the middle, or set Color by to Weight to see where the heavy items are.
